Casa Cadaval is located north of Lisbon on the Tejo River in the Ribatejo region of Portugal. Portugal is not known for it's wines, and they can still be difficult to find in stores. You're more likely to run across more expensive boutique wines or ports than you are good quality everyday drinking wines. This wine is an exception. I've had several vintages and it always pleases, offering consistent complexity for a wine in the $15 price range.
The 2006 Padre Pedro from Casa Cadaval tastes of dark and ancient places. The bouquet is all dank earth and mushrooms with hints of wild berries and red flowers. The palate is lush with notes of leather and rich plummy fruit, finishing off with the perfect amount of spicy tannins.
